As global environmental awareness grows, the Australian government has once again taken solid steps to address plastic pollution. From September 1, 2024, Australia has implemented a stricter plastic ban, banning all soft plastic shopping bags and disposable plastic products, including coffee cups. This move marks Australia's determination to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable development.

Bioplastics Innovation Hub is established to develop 100% compostable plastics

In order to further promote the research and development and application of environmentally friendly materials, the Australian government invested 8 million Australian dollars (about 38.42 million RMB) to establish the Bioplastics Innovation hub. The main task of the hub is to develop 100% compostable bioplastics, including sprays, films, bottles, caps and packaging. These bioplastics will use food waste such as cooking oil as raw materials, aiming to produce environmentally friendly products that can be decomposed in compost, land or water. The center's first project will cooperate with PHA producer Ecopha Biotech Pty, with the goal of developing a new process to produce water bottles using PHA from food industry waste.
